Brian Coleman has been working for the last year and a half along with Erik Kvalsvik, his amazing photographer, on yet another stunning book!

This time he has documented beautiful interiors created by designers around the world using Fortuny fabrics. He also shares with his readers the legacy of Mariano Fortuny and brings us up to date with the current owners Mickey and Maury Riad.

In 1922, the Fortuny factory opened its doors on a small island, Giudecca, in what had once been a convent.  Mariano Fortuny resided in the Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, a palace built by the Pesaro family at the end of the 15th Century, and that is where he would study and conduct his experiments.  Today the Palazzo serves as a museum and many of the original fabrics, inventions, works of art and collections are open to the public to enjoy in the magnificent setting in which they were created.

 

The Riad brothers have taken over the management of the house of Fortuny since 1998 (you will have to visit the Fortuny website to read the amazing history!).   Carrying on the legacy Mariano Fortuny began, the fabric is still being produced in the same factory, on the same machines, using the same secret process and techniques handed down from generation to generation. The showrooms in Venice and New York have recently been expanded and renovated.  The New York showroom in the D & D Building has been renovated by Barry Dixon.
